This demonstration and training workstation with adaptive software and peripherals was funded by a grant from the United Way of Marquette County to the Upper Peninsula Library for the Blind & People With Disabilities in partnership with SAIL and the Marquette-Alger ISD.

This computer and adjustable table were donated for use by adults with vision impairments by the Marquette Lions Club.
 

 

The Xerox Reading Edge is a scanner with a built-in voice synthesizer.  The reading machine can scan print documents, convert to text, and read the text aloud.  A tape player is provided so that people can scan recipes, knitting patterns, bills, etc. and playback the recorded voice output at home. 

Purchased for the Library with a Library Services & Construction Act federal grant.

The Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) enlarges printed material in color.  A document is placed on the sliding tray underneath a camera.  The enlarged picture is read from the monitor. Type size can be adjusted.

A variety of ergonomic keyboards, wrist rests, foot rest, and copy holders are available for use with either computer.  Thanks to Michigan Department of Career Development, a division of Michigan Rehabilitation Services, for their advice on these peripherals. 

This keyboard is the Kenesis design with a split key well. It accommodates any size lengths. The Alimed web site is a good place to browse for adaptive technology because they provide pictures of most of the products they resell.  Their URL is www.alimed.com


This inexpensive mini-keyboard was purchased from Global Computer Supplies for $33.95! 
This keyboard is the Goldtouch Adjustable Keyboard, with two sections, easily adjustable.

The Library's ergonomic products were purchased with a grant from the United Way of Marquette County.

The Microsoft Natural Elite Keyboard is shown here in use with the BIGPRINT computer donated by the Marquette Lions Club. 
Partial funding for adaptive technology software was provided by a Library Services & Technology Act federal grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services administered by the Library of Michigan. This grant was awarded to the Upper Peninsula Region of Library Cooperation, Inc.
