Yes, we do accept donated materials.  Items we think will enhance our collection, will be added.  Items we can't use, we will sell in one of our bi-annual sales or in our ongoing Friends Book Store on the upper level of the library.  (See our Collection Development Policy.)

Book donation guidelines

Here's what we can use:

  • Books (hardcover or paperback) in good condition
  • Commercially published music on CD,  or video on DVD and Blue-Ray
  • Audio CD books
  • Framed art prints
  • Rare or Local Books

Item's we can't use:

  • Damaged, defaced, stained, moldy or smelly materials
  • Outdated materials, including VHS tapes
  • Non-commercially produced media
  • Magazines of encyclopedia sets more than 3 years old
  • Reader's Digest condensed books
  • Travel guides, textbooks, health, or technical books older than 5 years
  • Computer software or equipment

Items that are too dated or damaged to sell may get recycled or pitched.  Books can be recycled in Marquette County in your weekly pickup. For more information, call the Reference Desk at 906/226-4312.
