Official Contest Rules
How it Works: The Peter White Public Library invites the public to submit one cake that you have made in our “Winter Wonderland Cake Contest.”  Entries will be judged by the library’s Tasty Read Book Group as well as audience vote. Contest will be held at the Library on:
Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
a
How To Enter: Beginning 11/1/11, you may register to compete. Fill out the attached registration form and fax, mail or deliver it to:
Margaret Boyle, Programming Coordinator
Peter White Public Library
217 N. Front St., Marquette, MI 49855
Fax # 906-226-1783
Registration forms are available online, at the library or by calling 226-4318. You may enter only 1 division and submit only 1 entry for the decorating competition. There is no entry fee.
The last day to register is 1/7/12 by 5:00pm.
Theme: The contest theme is “Winter Wonderland”. You will be responsible for interpreting this theme in cake.

Cake Requirements:  The cake submitted must be completely edible with the exception of separator plates, pillars, cake boards and support dowel rods. The cake must be an original design and may not have been previously entered in any other contests. All work on the cake must be done by the entrant only. Parents must help younger children with baking the cake but icing and decorating must be done by the child only.
Please provide a list of ingredients that you used in your cake or in the design of your cake when you submit your entry. This will not be part of the judging but is for others to see how the cake was made and for possible food allergies. The list will be displayed with the cake.
a
Judging:
Eligible and complete entries should be brought to Peter White Public Library Community Room between 12:00pm and 1:00pm on the day of the contest to be readied for judging. Entrants will given a number and fill out an entry form with the name of their cake and list of ingredients. Doors will open to the public and judging will begin at 2:00pm. Entrants will be asked to wait nearby in another room during the judging to keep the entries anonymous.  First and second place cakes in each division will be judged by members of the Tasty Reads Book Group. Judging will be based on neatness, originality, creativity, skill, difficulty of techniques used and interpretation of theme. In the event of a tie, tiebreaker will be based on the highest score for “creativity”. Cakes are judged on appearance only, not on the flavor of the cake. The audience will vote for the “people’s choice award” in each category while the judges are deliberating.
General Rules: This contest is open to all that would like to participate with the exception of the Tasty Reads Book Group members and those living in their households. Judges reserve the right in their sole discretion to disqualify any entrant that, refers, depicts or in any way reflects negatively upon the contest or any other person or entity, or does not comply with these requirements or these Official Rules.
a
