Your Mind Matters Film Screening: "Hidden Pictures"

Schizophrenics Anonymous and the Peter White Public Library present a screening of "Hidden Pictures: A Personal Journey into Global Mental Health," a documentary by award-winning filmmaker and primary care doctor, Delaney Rushton, at 7:00 pm October 22 in the Peter White Library Community Room.

Refreshments will be served at the event which is being held in recognition of Mental Illness Awareness Week.

Delaney Rushton, MD, who grew up in the shadow of her dad's schizophrenia, explores the stigma and hidden struggles faced by the 450 million people living with mental illness worldwide. Through deeply personal stories involving bipolar illness, depression, schizophrenia and anxiety in India, China, Africa, France and the U,S., Hidden Pictures reveals a global epidemic of silence around mental illness, as well as moments of profound compassion and remarkable change. Released in 2013, this award-winning film has a runtime of 56 minutes.

Prior to the film, Margery Pearce Wakefield, a native of Lake Linden who has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, will give a brief talk by video conference about her life-long struggle with schizophrenia and her successful pursuit of a Master's Degree in Social Work. An informal panel of mental health professionals will also be available after the screening to answer questions about schizophrenia and related disorders.
