Keweenaw Reads Book Discussion

Posted on

The Portage Lake District Library and the Copper Country Reading Council invites everyone to join a Keweenaw Reads Community book discussion at the library on Wednesday, August 15, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. The book discussion will be facilitated by Ruth Ryynanen.

The book chosen for this year’s discussion is So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson.

Author Ronson presents case after case of public shaming in the twenty-first century, showing how the power of social media has exposed people’s darkest secrets. So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed is a collection of cautionary tales with a humorous look at how all humans err, some worse than others, with spambots, twitter trolls, plagiarists posing as successful authors and more.

So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed was chosen for the 2018 Summer Reading As Inquiry Initiative for incoming students at Michigan Technological University to read and discuss during orientation week in August. The public is invited to a presentation by the author on August 28 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at the MTU Rozsa Center.

Library programs are free and everyone is welcome. For more information, please call the library at 482-4570.
