Time: 12:00 pm

Music on the Menu – Enjoy a musical journey through Finland's history. Pasi Lautala, Oren Tikkanen, Bob Hiltunen, and Matt Durocher will perform popular songs from prominent artists that take the audience from 1910 to the present and include waltzes, tangos, jenkkas, humppas, and rock n' roll. Each song will be preceded by a short multimedia presentation of original artists and composers. This performance will feature one song from each decade.

This week's Math Workshop will be held on Friday rather than on Wednesday. Beginning July 18, the Math Workshops will be held every Wednesday through August 29. All middle school students are invited to attend weekly math workshops to keep their math skills sharp and to learn exciting math concepts.

You're invited to take a break and enjoy a lively midday concert from noon – 1:00 p.m. Kesan Laulu (Summer’s Song) will perform Finnish music plus a variety of waltzes, polkas, and schottisches. Band members are Jaana and Rauli Tuttila, Eric Platt (mandolin), Dennis Halme (accordion), Kalle Rahkonen (violin), Ken Holster (banjo), Raimo Juntunen-Hewlett (accordion), and Rauno Karvonen (guitar). This program will be held in the community room.

Bring your lunch and enjoy the music of Keweenaw Brewgrass Band. They play an electric mix of "anything rhythmic"–bluegrass, Texas swing and rock classics on acoustic instruments, blending with three- and four-part harmony vocals. The performance is held outside on the dock, or inside if the weather is bad.

* Mountain Dulcimer WorkshopMountain Dulcimer Workshop

Time: 2:00 pm

Wanda Degen will hold a hands-on Mountain Dulcimer Workshop for families from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Everyone will have an instrument to play and learn on. The workshop is recommended for adults and for children ages 7 and up. Younger children will need and older partner to work with. Everyone is welcome to participate.

* Dulcimer ConcertDulcimer Concert

Time: 6:30 pm

Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer Concert with Wanda Degen – A lifelong love of music and history shines through in family concerts performed by Wanda Degen. Based in Lansing, Michigan, she sings and plays songs and tunes from all over the world, including Appalachia, the British Isles, and the Great Lakes Region. Her repertoire spans the ages combining traditional, contemporary, and original selections. Listeners will hear unusual arrangements of some familiar classics as well as some ancient, uncommon gems. Participation is encouraged with opportunities for sing-alongs, clap-alongs, and the creation of a volunteer rhythm band. Wanda performs with autoharp, mountain dulcimer, and hammered dulcimer.

Bring your lunch and enjoy The Bluffs Orchestra, a five-piece swing band performing on drums, keyboard, trumpet, trombone, and sax. They play music from the Big Band Wing Era with some older and newer tunes mixed in. This event will take place on the dock outside the library, or inside if the weather is bad.

Teens ages 13 through 17! Join us for another epic Nerf Battle! Bring your own Nerf Blaster–we supply the darts. Register by signing up at the main desk. You may also call us to reserve a spot, but you need to have a waiver on file with us before we can add your name to the list. Pizza will be served at 5:00, then teams are chosen and the fun begins!

* National Geographic AdventurerNational Geographic Adventurer

Time: 2:00 pm

National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, hiker, author, adventure speaker, and founder of the Blue Ridge Hiking Company, Jennifer Pharr Davis, will give a slide show presentation of her adventures and read excerpts from her book from 2:00 3:00. There will be a book signing and selling following the presentation. The public is then invited to join Jennifer for a hike on the Tech Trails from 3:30 - 5:00. Details for the hike will be given after the presentation.
