Posted on December 2, 2017 – 2:50 pm

The Portage Lake District Library invites everyone to join them as they celebrate the holidays in Downtown Houghton events.

On Saturday, December 9, Chris Alquist will present a Gingerbread and Holiday Storytime at the Carnegie Museum from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Other activities at the Museum include traditional music by Sul Ponticello, a confectionary playhouse and village, sweet treats, a visit from Santa, and more.

Immediately following this event there will be horse and sleigh (or wagon) rides starting at the library from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. as part of the City of Houghton’s Victorian Inspired Christmas celebration. There will also be handmade candle making demonstrations at the library. Other activities for people to enjoy include visiting downtown shops, strolling with Victorian villagers, and the lighting of the Christmas tree at Bridgeview Park at 6:30 p.m. Free roast beef sandwiches will also be served at a food stand on Sheldon Ave. during the event.
