The Portage Lake District Library will host students from the Computer Science Department at Michigan Tech for “BASIC Topics,” a series of presentations covering various topics in digital technology.
These programs will be presented by the MTU students who offer individual computer help in the weekly BASIC (Building Adult Skills in Computing) program at the library. Participants may bring their own digital device or use one that will be provided.
The programs in this series are as follows:
Tuesday, December 5, 6:30 p.m.
Fighting Fake News
Participants will learn what fake news is, why and how it is made, why we should be concerned about it, how to spot it and how to stop it.
Thursday, December 7, 6:30 p.m.
Finding Your Way Around the Internet
MTU students will help participants use digital search and navigation options to help them get where they want to go and learn what they want to learn. Participants will also learn how to sort the right answers from the wrong ones and go on an online Treasure Hunt.
Tuesday, December 12
Sharing (but not too much) on Facebook
Participants will learn the different ways to share on Facebook, how to set things up to be in touch with people, and how to know what is being shared and who it is being shared with. Participants should have a Facebook account set up prior to this presentation.
Library programs are free and everyone is welcome. For more information, please call the library at 482-4570 or visit the library at www.pldl.org and on Facebook.
