Help with Invasive Species Management on Your Property
Posted on October 31, 2017 – 1:48 pm
The Portage Lake District Library invites those who are battling Buckthorn on their property, trying to rid their woods of Japanese Barberry, or who are wondering if they have Knotweed to learn about invasive species management on Tuesday, November 7, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Jill Fisher, Botanist and Educator with Keweenaw Invasive Species Management Area (KISMA) will discuss how to attack these three problematic species. Autumn is a good time of year to identify these species, because the plants hold their leaves late into the fall.
Fisher will also discuss native plant landscaping alternatives and will give native seeds to participants.
Participants are encouraged to bring photos or samples of problem plants they are concerned about to this event. Fisher will try to identify what they are and offer advice on what to do to with them.
This event is free and open to all. For more information, please call the library at
