On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!
Programs for kids ages 0 - 12 are still underway on Mondays at 10 am and will run through July. Children can track their reading progress over the summer for chances to win prizes. Last day to report reading hours to the library is Wednesday August 17. Make sure to bring in your reading log for more entries into the drawing. Antique Appraisals with Mark Moran
Mark Moran, well known antique appraiser from Antiques Roadshow fame will be at the library on Sept. 21 from 4 - 7 pm. The cost per item is $10 and Preregistration is required. Please call the library for more information and to register.
North Shore Needles meet on Tuesdays at 2pm
Knit, crochet, embroider, sew, quilt, you name it! Bring your project to the library and join in with this lively conversation group! Show off your work, get pointers, share your expertise, or learn new techniques! It's fun to see what others are making.
Get Your Favorite Magazines Online ! Zinio for Great Lakes Digital Libraries is available for your use. There are about 100 magazine titles with simultaneous access to each issue as it is published. Patrons go to the website (URL below); register using an email address & library borrower's barcode; search our shared library collection of magazine titles; and, by clicking on a magazine cover, subscribe to the title. Each time a new issue is published, an email alert will let you know that the issue is available. Searching for Ancestors? - AlgerRoots meets in Library---Alger Roots, a newly formed Geneological group is meeting each last Wednesday at 10:30 am in the Public Library. The group is comprised of many resourceful individuals, who are coming together to share their talents, and provide an avenue to learn more of the History and Families in the Alger County Area, and make information more readily available. Using Family Search to search for Ancestors usually gets results. There are many sites that have records, but Family Search is free. If you are inside the Library, you can use Ancestry.com free to search for your Family tree. Also check out our other links to genealogical research pages on the Internet by visiting the Geneological links Page which is being updated on a regular basis.
