New Books

She Rides Shotgun by Jordan Harper

Debut novels continue to be my favorite, and She Rides Shotgun by Jordan Harper did not disappoint. Shotgun is a gritty, dark and violent ride from start to finish. The story of eleven-year-old tough as nails, Polly McClusky “kidnapped” by her ex-con father, Nate in order to save her life will have you feeling shocked, cringing and cheering all at…

Beartown by Fredrik Backman

I am not a hockey or huge sports fan, but I recently read Beartown by Fredrik Backman and really loved it. The plot revolves around a small town in northern Sweden whose identity is wrapped up in their youth hockey team. Basically the small northern town is dying and has nothing much going for it except this hockey team. The…

Community Foundation of Marquette County Grant

The library was recently the recipient of a $300.00 grant through the Gwinn Area Community Fund in partnership with the Community Foundation of Marquette County. With this grant we are able to offer Lego Clubs this summer during our Summer Reading Program. We currently have two Lego Clubs for children ages 5 -12. These clubs are being led by youth volunteers. Creations made during the clubs are on display in the library.

Their generous gift will allow us to purchase Lego bricks and base plates for children of all ages, including toddlers. We will also purchase more Lego idea books that are so popular with our young patrons.

In the fall we will offer After-school Lego Clubs and have building time during Story Time at least once a month for the smaller children. Watch our website and Facebook page for more information later this summer. Thank you so much to the Community Funds for supporting this project.

Build A Better World Summer Reading Program 2017

Our Summer Reading Program officially begins on Monday, June 12th and runs for six weeks. The last day for earning prizes is Saturday, July 22nd.

Sign up begins on the first day of the program. Children from birth through middle school will receive a bag, reading log, and a free book- just for joining! Earning prizes is easy. Read for ten periods of 15 minutes each, get a reward, and put your name in for that week’s prize drawing. You can earn two rewards each week, but keep reading because there is no limit to the number of times you can put your name in for the prize drawings.

Adults & Teens have a program too. For every book you read,  you can put your name in the prize drawings. We will have weekly book giveaways plus some grand prizes at the end.

See our events calendar for all of our programming details.
