Why the Census is Important to You

According to the U. S. Census Bureau, “The decennial census is the primary source of data on the nation’s population and economy.” Census information is used to apportion how state and federal dollars are distributed, so an under-count of the population could have far-reaching implications–skewing data used to determine how many congressional representatives each state gets and could affect representation in state legislatures and local government bodies. The census shapes how billions of dollars each year are allocated, including funding for schools and hospitals.
