Family Movies @ Bayliss are movies shown in the Children ’s Room one Saturday a month. The movies are family friendly, open to the general public and free of charge. Popcorn is available for a small donation. Check the Calendar for a schedule as the times change during the summer.
Each summer Bayliss Public Library participates in the statewide Summer Reading Program. Throughout the summer, from June until August, both preschool and elementary age children are invited to include reading in their activities for the summer. Children may check out books to read over the summer, keep track of the books read (or ones read to them) by recording the titles, and then attend weekly sessions at the library; ending with a 'Grand Drawing' in August. Children do not have to attend every session to participate in the Summer Reading Program.
A different theme is selected for each year. Past themes have included:
2007 “Get a Clue @ Your Library”
2006 "Paws 'n Claws"
"Catch the Reading Bug" is the 2008 theme. Check each spring for the year's theme. See the Calendar for the current year's schedule. Enrollment will begin June 1.
Each session lasts approximately one hour and caregivers are invited to stay with their preschool children while elementary children may attend on their own. Children will keep track of the books read (or ones read to them) by recording the titles. Each title will be hung from a streamer from the ceiling of the Children’s Room. At the end of the program, the titles will be taken down and added to the Grand Drawing.
Ten titles read will mean ten chances to win a prize. T-shirt drawings will be done weekly. In 2006, a record 235 children read 4250 books…in just 7 weeks!
Preschool meet weekly through the summer on Wednesdays at 10:00 or at 1:00.
Elementary meet weekly through the summer on Thursdays at 1:00 or Saturdays at 11:00.
