USING THE CATALOG

What's in the Catalog
Bayliss Public Library card catalog is an on-line catalog that allows patrons to search for materials at Bayliss and over 60 other Upper Peninsula libraries from any Internet location.

Catalog terminals are placed in several locations around the library. You may also search from your home computer or anywhere else you have Internet access. Please ask a staff member if you need help using the catalog terminals in the library.

How to Search the Catalog
Click on the Search the Catalog tab at the top of any page on Bayliss Public Library website to access the card catalog.

Type your search terms in the Search for box. By using the drop down arrows in the Library or Group box you can choose to search Bayliss Public Library only or All Libraries in the Upper Peninsula group. Clicking on Title, Author, Subject, Keyword, Series, or Periodical Title starts your search.

To limit your search to a particular format, reading level, or publication year click on Click to Switch to Power Search and enter your search terms.

Your 'Hit List'
The results of your search will be displayed as a list of titles. This is your "Hit List". To view more information about an item from your Hit List click on the Details button, the title, or the book cover.

Item Information will give you title, author, publisher, publication date, pages, and ISBN (International Standard Book Number). It will also show what libraries own the title and where it 'lives' in the library, or if the item is checked out.

A Look Inside gives you a summary of the title

The Catalog Record tab gives you the full bibliographic record.

Under the Item Information tab there will be a Holdings List. This list will tell you which libraries own the title, the call number (how materials are shelved), the number of copies owned by each library, the format of the item (book, audio book, video), and where to find the title in the library (Adult fiction or non-fiction, Juvenile fiction or non-fiction, etc.).

To find the book or other material in Bayliss Public Library, you will need the call number or location, plus the author and title of the item.
